Baby Bedside Cot
A baby bedside crib (or next-to-me crib) is a bassinet style crib that is attached to the side of your mattress. This allows you to reach your baby and comfort the infant without having to get up from your mattress. Some models come with an inclined feature to ease reflux.
Be aware that you should only sleep with your child in a bassinet, crib or bedside crib when the mattress is firm and flat to minimize the risk of being suffocated.
Cot
A bedside cot, sometimes called a co-sleeper, or bassinet is a great way to let your baby sleep with you in the early months. The cots are made to fit next to your bed so that you can easily carry your baby to you to feed them at night or soothe them back to sleep. They're also perfect for moms recovering from a c-section.
There are a variety of models to choose from and the Arm's reach Clear-Vue stands out. This compact play yard features four sides. Two of the sides are long and can be lowered out of the way with Velcro, allowing you to easily reach your baby's nighttime feeds.
The Baby Hug 4 In 1 Air is another option. It also comes with a drop down side and can be converted into a recliner. This is a great option for babies and toddlers. Cots For Tots provides you with the flexibility to alter the position your baby sleeps in as they develop.
It's important to note that although bassinets can be used in lieu of traditional cots but Red Nose strongly suggests sleeping your infant in their own cot from the time of birth until six months. This is due to the fact that the risk of SIDS increases when babies sleep with adults.
Cots are more secure than bassinets because they are fixed in height that guarantees there's no gap between your baby's mattress and the adult bed. They're also generally larger, which means they can be converted into toddler and full-size beds as your baby grows - which can save you money in the long term.

It's important to take into account your budget and the dimensions of your nursery or bedroom when choosing a model. Remember that cots are more expensive than bassinets, however, they are an excellent investment since they can last for many years and can be utilized by your child as develops.
You'll also need an appropriate mattress for your cot or crib. The mattress should be firm, flat, and breathable for your baby to get a good sleep and reduce the risk of developing breathing problems or pressure sores. Be wary of second-hand mattresses since they can increase the risk of your child developing SIDS. Be sure you choose one that has been endorsed by the CPSC and adheres to the most recent guidelines. Be careful not to overstuff the crib, or use duvets or pillows, bumpers, or baby positioners. They could be a suffocation risk. A baby mattress that is breathable is one that is firm enough to support your baby's spine. On the internet, you can locate various baby mattresses, ranging from budget-friendly choices to premium brands. If you're not sure, visit an establishment and try them out for yourself.
